Parteck^® Delta M – delta mannitol with unique features

Excellent hardness and fast disintegration for wet granulation formulations

Mannitol, a sugar alcohol that predominantly occurs in three crystalline forms (alpha, beta and delta polymorph), is especially suitable as an excipient for advanced, highly active APIs thanks to its non-hygroscopicity and low content of reducing sugars. However, standard mannitol (in beta quality) often lacks sufficient binding and compaction properties. Parteck^® Delta M is the only commercially available mannitol excipient in a delta-polymorph crystals – combining both the inertness of mannitol and excellent binding properties. Its unique particle features enable formulators to easily develop challenging formulations by wet granulation.

Parteck^® Delta M: Excellent binding properties

In wet granulation, Parteck^® Delta M particles undergo a conversion from the delta to the beta polymorph due to water contact. The resulting beta-polymorphic mannitol granulate, however, shows a tenfold increased surface area – it is highly porous and exhibits excellent binding and tabletting properties. In particular, Parteck^® Delta M enables significantly higher tablet hardness compared to standard beta-mannitol. Formulators can compress at lower forces and thus minimize wear on their tabletting equipment. What is more, even challenging formulations with poorly compressible actives will work like a charm.

Accelerated disintegration

Not only does the unique structure of granulated Parteck^® Delta M result in outstanding binding and compaction properties, it also facilitates rapid disintegration of hard tablets. This makes Parteck^® Delta M the ideal choice for any challenging solid formulation where inertness, non-hygroscopicity as well as outstanding binding properties combined with fast disintegration are prerequisites for success.
